Frequently Asked Questions
We know a first visit to a church can bring questions.
Here are answers to some common ones to help you feel at home.
What should I wear?
Come as you are. There is no dress code. You’ll see everything from T-shirts to bow ties—and sometimes a Ravens jersey.
What is the music like?
Our music reflects the diversity of our congregation. We sing a mix of contemporary worship songs and classic hymns, often arranged in jazz or gospel styles. Special music during the offering may range from classical to bluegrass to gospel choir.
How long is the service?
Our worship service lasts about 90 minutes.
What happens during the service?
Our services include congregational singing, corporate prayer, Scripture reading, and Biblical preaching. We close the service with weekly announcements. After the service, we gather for light refreshments and a time to greet each another. On the first Sunday of each month, we celebrate Communion (the Lord’s Supper).
What’s available for my kids?
Children of all ages are welcome to remain with their parents throughout the service. Our bulletins include visual cues to help children follow along, with stickers provided for this purpose. Sermon outlines, coloring pages, books, Bibles, crayons, and music shakers are also available for children to use during the service.
Our children’s ministry also offers opportunities for younger children outside of the service.
Nursery: Provides free play, a Bible story, and a snack for children ages 0-4. You are welcome to drop off your child in nursery at any point before or during the worship service.
Friends of Jesus: Provides Bible teaching, prayer, music, and a craft for children ages 4-7. During worship, children participating in Friends of Jesus are invited to the front of the sanctuary for prayer and dismissal before the sermon begins.
If your child is participating in Nursery or Friends of Jesus, please check them in at the computer in the lobby before the service. Your child will receive a name sticker with your phone number, and you’ll receive an ID tag for secure pickup after the service.
A private room is available throughout the worship service for mothers and infants, with audio of the service available if desired. It is located behind the Connections Desk.
The lobby and parlor are also available for individuals or families who need a quiet space or a break during the service.
Are guests expected to give money?
We do not place any pressure on guests to give during the offering. We believe giving is a free and joyful act of worship, offered in response to God’s grace.
What accessibility options are available?
A wheelchair-accessible ramp at the front of the building offers access to the church's main level. A wheelchair-accessible ramp on the right side of the building offers access from the parking lot to the church's basement level.
Large print bulletins and Bibles are available for use during the Sunday service.
The lobby and parlor are available for individuals or families who need a quiet space or a break during the service.
Are there Sunday School classes?
We offer Adult Soul Food and Children’s Sunday School at 9:00 a.m. before worship. Check our bulletin or church calendar for the latest schedule and study topics.
Is a meal served?
Every Sunday after worship, we gather for light refreshments, conversation, and fellowship with our church family. Every other month, we gather for a potluck lunch, typically on the first Sunday of the month.
