Pen Lucy Action Network

“To loose the chains on injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke....”
—Isaiah 58:6b

Pen Lucy Action Network (PLAN) is a nonprofit community development corporation committed to working in Pen Lucy and the surrounding neighborhoods. PLAN's vision is to glorify Jesus Christ in the Pen Lucy neighborhood by working to correct economic, social and cultural injustices through the empowerment of people, families and community for the redemption of Pen Lucy, its organizations and its people. PLAN pursues this vision through several programs and areas of focus.

PLAN is committed to providing quality programs for the youth of our community. Our youth program, Pen Lucy Youth Partnership (PLYP), includes extensive sports leagues and a computer-based learning center.

PLAN is also involved in responding to the needs of substance abuse within our community. Careseekers, a Christian-based 12-step support group developed to respond to the needs of community residents, was launched in March 2003. Additionally, a referral list is being developed to help addicts access treatment. This list will include referral components for substance abuse treatment, job training, housing and additional social services which may be needed.

PLAN also is committed to working very closely with the community-based Pen Lucy Association to organize community clean-ups, network with the City government to coordinate services, advocate for residents and conduct general community organizing activities. This involves developing relationships with numerous community residents and government officials.

FCF's proposed building expansion will be very beneficial for the work of PLAN as the proposed facility would enable us to enhance our sports programs and to provide a location for other programs. We are also exploring the possibility of housing the learning center and offices within the new building. The expanded facilities will also serve as an excellent location for large-scale community meetings and activities.
